History
The origin of the enterprise dates to 1966 when the government decision was taken to build the ammonium nitrate factory Zak豉dy Azotowe "W這c豉wek". The lines of ammonium nitrate, nitric acid and ammonia production were put into operation in the years 1971-1972. The next step of the Companys history was the polyvinyl chloride plant construction completed in the early 1980s. In that time a new heat and power plant was constructed.
In October 1989 PVC compounds plant construction was started and so completed with the start-up in June 1992.
In the years 1999-2003 the vinyl chloride and polyvinyl chloride plants were modernized and enlarged increasing their production capacity to 300 thousand tons per year each. The next step was an installation for the recovery of hydrogen chloride from chlorinated organic waste products (Societa Vicarb license), designed for the utilization of liquid, solid as well as gaseous chlorinated organic waste products. It is regarded to be one of the most modern plants of waste utilization in Poland. The sewage disposal was also modernized in the Company.
In the year 2000 the fertilizers plant was enlarged with the calcium ammonium production line. The new plant did not change production capacity in conversion of N. On the contrary, it enabled to utilize it completely.
In January 2006 started up of a modernised chlorine and sodium hydroxide production plant. The technology was change from diaphragm into membrane one. Currently the Company is one of very few companies in Central Europe, and the only one in Poland producing chlorine and NaOH by a membrane method.
At the beginning of 1990s, a comprehensive plan concerning the restructuring of the Company and its ultimate privatisation began. In April 1993, the enterprise was transformed into a Partnership controlled by the State Treasury.
In October 1995, as a result of a bank agreement the former ANWIL SA creditors became the Companys shareholders.
At the same time, the structural changes took place. As a result of such transformation the business units, were separated and they are subject to the Executive Board.
Functions necessary for the operation of the Company were reassigned - either subcontracted or transferred to subsidiaries and associated companies belonging to the ANWIL Group.
In April 1998, the Company changed its name from Zak豉dy Azotowe "W這c豉wek" into ANWIL SA. The change was necessary and appropriate to give the Company a new visual identity and to distinguish it in the chemical branch.
In May 2002, ANWIL SA signed joint-venture agreement with South-Korean companies SK Global and SK Chemicals to build a PET bottle-chip plant with the capacity of 120 thousand tons per year.
In November 2006, ANWIL SA purchased of the controlling shares of the Czech company Spolana a.s. seated in Neratovice. In the 2008 the process of assuming total control over the subsidiary Spolana a.s. was finished. ANWIL SA now owns 100% of shares of Spolana a.s.
